Last weekend, the first round of Brazil’s presidential election was much closer than many anticipated. The incumbent Jair Bolsonaro received 43% of the vote but was beaten by former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (more commonly referred to as just ‘Lula’) who registered 48%. They will both face a second round run-off on October 30.
